Laurent was sweet and charming and so unbelievably in love, I started crying at 1:30 in the morning because of him (because I stayed up waiting for it to be released on Kindle). I didn’t expect Damen and Laurent to be so sweet with each other, at least not for a while. In just 30 pages, Pacat tore out my heart and stomped on it does she just expect me to be able to live my life normally after reading this?!?! God damn you, woman.

I was not at all prepared for this story. This story is set a few weeks after the conclusion of the third novel in the series, Kings Rising, and works as the series’ epilogue. Pacat, set in her Captive Prince universe. I feel like this goes without saying, but spoilers.įor those unfamiliar, The Summer Palace is the second of four short stories to be released by author C.S. When the walls went up, it was with Damen inside them.“It was so close to his own thoughts – that everything he knew was gone, but that this was here, in its place, this one bright thing.” This is not really a review, this is more of me just writing down my thoughts about the story and having a minor freak out. Having made the decision to let Damen in, Laurent had not gone back on it. I loved this, and can’t wait to read the other short stories!

And of course, all Damen can focus on is that Laurent wasn’t in the proper attire, for it. I wouldn’t mind a short about something between Nikandros and Laurent that was mentioned in this book. It’s an epilogue, but it just leaves me wanting to read more shorts about Damen and Laurent leading their peaceful lives in blissful happiness. This story is sweet, hilarious, and even a little bit sad. There’s a lot of reflection from Damen’s POV about what role they played in each other’s lives from the start of Captive Prince. “The Summer Palace” is really just the loveliest story about Damen and Laurent after the events in Kings Rising.

I never did read Drarry fics or read any yaoi manga, so this series was a really intense way to start it all off. It’s really the series that got me reading m/m novels. I realize that I never did move my Captive Prince reviews over to my blog from Goodreads, but that’s only because there’s really nothing of note in my reviews besides me rambling (more than usual) about my love for the books and the characters. It’s an epilogue of sorts to the Captive Prince series. Set after the events of the Captive Prince trilogy, The Summer Palace is a story about Damen and Laurent. “When all this is over, we could take horses and stay a week in the palace…”
